1.0− My first night at the Aliz hotel was terrible. I show up around 5:30 for check in and the men at the counter were extremely nice. However, I had to stand in line for around 15 minutes to use the elevator to get to my room. Once I finally made it to my room and was ready to go out and tour the city I stood in front of the elevator waiting for it to come for 10 minutes. I heard the elevator stopping below our floor and above our floor but never stopped at the 35th floor. This made it impossible for time management as we were already late to dinner reservations. The only other option was talk walk down 35 flight of stairs which my fiancee and I did. Once we returned from touring the city we hopped on a crowded elevator which we still had to wait in line to use at 10:30 at night. I told one of the people in the elevator to stop at the 35th floor which they responded that this elevator only went to the 40th floor. Oh well I would just walk down 5 flights of stairs, at this point I’m expecting the worst to happen. I get off at the 40th floor and ask the host where the stairs are and he said there aren’t any stairs to go down. This doesn’t seem very safe in the event of an emergency. We then have to wait another 5-10 minutes for the elevator to come back up to the 40th floor. We finally make it back to our rooms and we are ready to unwind and watch some television before bed. I try to turn up the sound and it doesn’t work. I did call the front desk and they sent someone up within 10 minutes who said he had never saw this problem and found out how to fix it after messing with the settings. Okay the television sound is fixed and we are ready to lay in the bed and relax but another problem occurs; whenever I turn off the light switch in the bedroom the tv stops working. You would think only the after switch would do this but it’s also the switch that controls the lights over the bed.
Elevator suck !! Not just one day, EVERY Day
6.0Even though the room is tiny, it was very nice. TV doesn’t work.
− Elevators was a NIGHTMARE !! Everyday, waited 1/2 hours just to get inside an elevator. The last day, I had to ride up to get in. One of my friend, literally waited one hour. Missing appts
Wonderful stay with thoughtful touches
9.0Great hotel, will definitely return. Very nice touches like mini fridge, handheld steam iron, cleverly designed clothing and storage spaces. Unexpected perk to get welcome drinks in the lobby bar and some credit to spend at the lobby minimart. Wonderful rooftop bar called Dear Irving with stunning panorama views out to the water. Staff was top tier - courteous, helpful, and creative.
− Hotel prices across the city were insane the week of my stay. This was due in part to a long bank holiday weekend, so the inflation was not isolated to Aliz, but the price point was way too high. The hotel was still perfectly situated for business trip purposes and close to TSQ, Broadway and restaurant row for down time, so I will return - but I would never spend as much as this week cost for 4 nights (over 2k for the cheapest category room) were it not for work footing the bill. One of the elevators was also broken for the majority of my stay, so there were lines to go up to your room, and I had to walk down the steps from the 12th floor once - not ideal.
