Furry Good Hotel

6.0

Canopy has been a favorite hotel for us in the past due to the updated decor, pleasant staff, and cleanliness. This particular location needs a couple of disclaimers. Be aware that unless you select the waterfront view, you will have views of the HVAC system because the rest of the hotel is U-shaped facing the city and smack in the middle of the U is the HVAC system visible from all floors and the three wings. It's fine if you are above the 3rd floor and you look straight out to the city skyline (just don't look down). This is a pet friendly property, so be sure to indicate if you need a room that has been given extra cleaning attention. We had to change rooms a couple of times to find one free of fur and odors. But if we had a dog, we would be happy to have such a nice hotel to bring them. We just happen to have some allergies and were hoping to find one room that was designated as pet free. The management informed us that this is a HILTON policy so all rooms are available for pets. We were able to walk to everything in the area. The rooftop is a cool spot for late night drinks. There are bikes available but we did not use them. There is also a coffee/pastry bar for breakfast available for purchase and it did smell good, we just did not indulge. I liked the ambiance but I wish they had some pet free rooms. Allison, the front house manager was very apologetic and made an effort to rectify the situation for which we were grateful.

Excellent choice for our short stay in Portland post cruise

10.0

We arrived in Portland after a delightful river/coastal cruise. Cruise ships debark early to prepare for next cruise, so we were at the hotel at 9am-ish. Long before check-in time. But Renee had a room ready for us, much to our delight. It was a clean, well appointed room and kept clean by able staff. The robes were very thick and heavy. Many choices for various lighting options. Excellent shower with very accommodating heads to choose your use. We asked for a second chair for sitting in the room and one was delivered promptly. We went up to see the rooftop bar and found they offer small plates rather than a full dinner option, so we went elsewhere to find our choice. Did have one breakfast in the cafe (photo of wall sculpture) on ground level and it was delicious and easy to order. Enjoyed our Portland stay here, and will likely book again next time we are in Portland for another cruise. Renee became our point person while here. She happily and professionally helped us each time we asked.

Our door had a malfunction keeping it ajar unless it was pushed/pulled completely closed manually. We discovered that after returning to room after dinner one evening. No one had entered our room in our absence, and staff had the order to repair or replace as soon as we were checked out, immediately after we alerted them to the situation.

Car interior pried open in valet custody — claim denied, appeal ignored

2.0

Stayed May 8–10, 2026. The hotel is valet-parking only, so I had no choice but to hand over my 2025 Mazda CX-50. We didn't use the car all weekend. After the trip I found the driver's door control panel had been pried at with a tool — bent plastic, gouges, torn leather. A Mazda dealer dismantled and inspected the door and stated in writing on the invoice that the panel was "previously tampered with" and needs full replacement. My dashcam, which records at every ignition start, was disconnected while the car sat in the valet garage and reconnected mid-drive on the return — the footage literally starts in the middle of the parking lot. I reported it to the Portland police and filed a damage claim. The valet contractor's claims administrator denied it based on ticket fine print, then ignored my formal appeal with all evidence attached for a month. Nearly $1,200 in repair and inspection costs, out of my own pocket so far. Guests should know: you are required to use this valet, the hotel outsources it, and when something goes wrong you'll be handed off to a third-party claims department that doesn't respond. Check your car thoroughly — interior included — before you drive away, because their ticket says claims must be made before leaving the facility.

Well worth a second visit.

10.0

A second look and I liked it better the second time. The location is still just as good as before, but I enjoyed the hotel itself a bit more. Maybe it was because it was a few days longer than last time but I felt more comfortable this time around. Rooms are still comfortable and functional. Still in good condition and the mattresses were being replaced during my stay. Although to be fair, I don't think they needed to be, but hey they are being proactive in keeping things fresh and serviceable and so kudos for that. Rooftop bar Luna was busy but even though I was also staying on the 6th floor I didn't hear a single noise so again, well done Canopy! Still valet only, which is of course my perpetual dislike, the parking cost is almost the same to self-park anywhere in Portland (the Spring Street garage is now $40 a night). Overall, I'm glad I came back and I'm quite sure there will be a third trip, hopefully sooner rather than later. Oh, and the front desk...one of the better check in experiences I have had in a long long time. So thank you!
